Zonta Farmington Novi sponsored an event: Human Trafficking in the U.S. - A Call to ACTION. Our Guest Speaker was Katherine Kaulfka Walts, JD. She is the Director of the Center for Human Rights of Children at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. We also had representatives from Michigan State Police and 3 other agencies whose mission is to help survivors in our area.
Admission was free - donations were accepted.
Our event was a great success! In the future we are planning to hold another event and will hope to have more attendees!
Each year, Zonta Farmington Novi celebrates Zonta Rose Day (which is International Women's Day) by presenting our symbol of fellowship, Yellow Roses to women we admire and respect. This year we presented a Certificate of Appreciation as well as roses to the staff at the Women's Center of Southeastern Michigan. They offer counseling and all kinds of services to help women.
Our kind of people! Congratulations!
In June 2019, we were able to present a check to First Step for $9,000 - proceeds from the 2019 private shopping fundraiser for First Step: Wayne County Project on Domestic and Sexual Violence!
Over the past 25 years, we have raised funds totaling $541,500 from this event alone for First Step!!
Zonta, First Step and local law enforcement held an Advocacy Summit on September 25, 2018, to impart important information on an innovative program (the Lethality Assessment Program - LAP) to increase Domestic Violence victim safety and offender accountability.
Thank you for your support.
We hope to add a follow-up session in the near future!
In December 2019, 2020 and 2021 Zonta Farmington Novi joined 6 other area Zonta clubs in renting a billboard along 14 Mile and I -75 to post the Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women banner. This activity was done to raise awareness of both Zonta and it's support of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign.
Zonta members are dedicated to improving the health status of women, including those who have had a mastectomy.
This pillow is used to protect the mastectomy incision site by comfortably keeping the arm away from the site and absorbing any excess fluid. It has an inner pillow, a cover and an adjustable strap. All are soft flannel and the outer cover can be removed for washing!
We have secured a few grants, and continue to provide pillows to some area hospitals / medical centers.
For the past several years, we have participated in the Hope Lutheran Alternative Christmas Art Fair. This fair displays crafts and items from non-profit agencies in the area.
This year the date is November 12th from 10 AM - 2 PM.
Come and see what we have to offer!
We provide "Birthday Kits" for kids and/or moms who happen to be celebrating a birthday while at the shelter. Kits include a choice of cake, frosting, assorted party favors, table covers, etc.
Zonta members also have hosted
Valentine and Halloween parties at the shelter. Our hope is that the parties provide a break for some much needed fun during their stay.
Our club has tried to support the Women's Center in several ways during the pandemic. We've donated a large amount of paper products to them. We have supported their annual fundraiser, Spring Soiree, in 2020 by donating an auction item - Gift Card Treasure Box - and also by being a Sponsor of their event in 2021. We hope to continue to support their efforts in the future.
